Two European wool brands for men's accessories

Our men's accessories collection draws on two German family-run wool manufacturers, both specializing in knit wool constructions. Every piece is 100% wool — no cotton linings, no synthetic blends — using certified organic wool processed without harsh chemicals.

Reiff

Family-run knitting company in southwestern Germany. Source for soft knit wool hats, gloves, and scarves made in-house using certified organic yarns. Known for traditional patterns and warm, durable construction.

Disana

German specialists in wool since the 1970s. Source for classic knit wool men's accessories — hats, gloves, and scarves with heritage styling and reliable warmth. GOTS certified.

Buying tips for men's wool accessories

Starting pieces: a hat, gloves, and a scarf

For everyday cold-weather wear, a wool hat and a pair of gloves cover the essentials, with a scarf added for colder or windier days. Most men find 1-2 hats, 1-2 pairs of gloves, and a scarf covers most conditions through a typical winter. For outdoor activity or very cold climates, a second heavier pair of gloves gives useful rotation — wool gloves need airing out between wears to stay fresh.

Why 100% wool over cotton-lined or synthetic blends

Most winter hats and gloves sold at mainstream retailers are either acrylic, polyester, or wool blends with 20-40% synthetic fibers — or wool-outer pieces lined with cotton or synthetic materials. Our Reiff and Disana accessories are 100% wool throughout, with no blends or linings. This matters because wool's key benefits — odor resistance, temperature regulation, natural antibacterial properties, and zero microplastic shedding — only work at full strength in 100% wool constructions. The result is a hat or pair of gloves that stays fresh longer, regulates warmth better across changing conditions, and doesn't contribute microplastics to the wash cycle.

Common questions about men's wool accessories

Are knit wool accessories warm enough for winter?

Yes, for most winter conditions. Knit wool hats and gloves from Reiff and Disana are warm enough for typical winter commuting, outdoor walks, and everyday cold-weather wear. Wool's natural temperature regulation means a single knit wool hat or pair of gloves handles a wide range of conditions. For sustained time outdoors in severe cold, wind, or heavy snow, wool can be layered — a thin wool hat under a heavier hat, or wool glove liners inside heavier gloves. Wool also retains warmth when slightly damp, unlike cotton, which becomes cold when wet.

Are wool hats itchy or uncomfortable on the forehead?

Quality merino wool hats are not itchy for most people. Merino fibers are typically 17-20 microns in diameter, compared to 30+ microns for the coarse wool that causes the itchy reputation. Reiff and Disana use fine merino wool processed without the harsh chemical finishes that can irritate skin. Knit wool hats that aren't lined with cotton still feel comfortable against the forehead because the yarn itself is soft — the wool directly contacts skin without any synthetic finishes in between. How do I care for wool hats and gloves?

Wool accessories need less washing than cotton or synthetic alternatives — typically only when visibly soiled. Air the piece out between wears; wool is naturally odor-resistant and antibacterial. When washing is needed, hand-wash in cool water with a wool-safe (enzyme-free) detergent, rinse gently, press out excess water without wringing, and lay flat to dry. Avoid heat, standard detergents, and fabric softeners. Knit wool pieces benefit from being laid flat to dry so they don't stretch out. With proper care, wool accessories last many years. Will 100% wool accessories shrink or lose shape over time?

Not if properly cared for. Wool can shrink if washed incorrectly — hot water, agitation, and heat drying all cause wool fibers to felt and shrink. Hand-washing in cool water with gentle handling, followed by flat drying, prevents shrinkage. Reiff and Disana's knit constructions hold their shape through regular wear. Avoid machine washing unless the care label specifically says the piece is machine-washable on a wool cycle. With proper care, wool hats and gloves maintain their fit and shape for years.
