Merino Wool Tops for Women

Organic wool tops for women — thin merino and wool-silk pieces, knit wool pullovers, and structured boiled wool tops from Engel, Reiff, and Disana. All GOTS or IVN BEST certified, designed for everyday wear, layering, and year-round temperature regulation.

Three European brands, three weights of wool tops

Our women's wool tops collection spans three distinct constructions — thin merino and wool-silk for layering and warm-weather wear, knit wool for everyday standalone tops, and boiled wool for structured, cool-weather pieces. Three German family-run manufacturers contribute to the range, all using certified organic wool processed without harsh chemicals.

Engel

German family business since 1927. Our primary source for women's wool tops — thin merino and wool-silk camisoles, t-shirts, long-sleeve tops, and base-layer-style pieces. IVN BEST certified, the strictest organic textile standard available.

Reiff

Family-run knitting company in southwestern Germany. Source for soft knit wool pullovers, cozy knit tops, and everyday standalone pieces made in-house using certified organic yarns.

Disana

German specialists in boiled wool since the 1970s. Source for structured boiled wool tops — thicker, wind-resistant, and designed to hold their shape for cool-weather daily wear. GOTS certified.

Buying tips for women's wool tops

Starting wardrobe: mix weights across the year

A practical wool tops wardrobe covers three weights to handle different conditions: 2-3 thin merino or wool-silk tops from Engel for warmer weather, layering, and year-round base-layer use; 1-2 knit wool pullovers from Reiff for standalone cool-weather wear; and 1 boiled wool top from Disana for structured pieces on cold days. Because wool needs washing far less often than cotton (every 5 to 10 wears), even a small wardrobe stretches further than you might expect.

Match the fabric weight to the use case

Thin merino and wool-silk (Engel) are for layering under blazers, dresses, and coats, or for standalone wear in mild conditions. Knit wool tops (Reiff) are mid-weight — great for everyday cool-weather wear, worn alone or over a base layer. Boiled wool tops (Disana) are structured, warmer, and hold their shape — best for standalone cool-weather wear and as a substitute for light outerwear in transitional seasons. Each product page specifies the fabric weight in GSM (grams per square meter) for precise comparison.

Common questions about women's wool tops

What's the difference between thin merino, knit wool, and boiled wool tops?

Thin merino and wool-silk tops (from Engel) are lightweight and flexible — designed for layering under blazers and coats or for standalone wear in mild conditions. Knit wool tops (from Reiff) are mid-weight — softer, more substantial, and great for everyday cool-weather wear. Boiled wool tops (from Disana) are densely felted — thicker, wind-resistant, and structured enough to hold their shape for cool-weather standalone wear or as substitute for a light jacket. Most women keep a mix of weights to cover different seasons and conditions. More on wool fabric types →

How do I find my size across different wool brands?

Each brand uses slightly different sizing conventions. Engel and Disana both use paired European sizing with XS/S/M/L labels: EU 34/36 (XS/S), EU 38/40 (S/M), EU 42/44 (M/L), EU 46/48 (L/XL). Reiff uses XS, S, L, and XL (no medium size). Each product page's size chart shows specific bust, waist, and hip measurements. Measuring yourself and comparing to each brand's chart is more reliable than going by size labels alone, since fit can vary between brands and garment types.

Can I wear merino wool tops year-round?

Yes. Thin merino and wool-silk tops are temperature-regulating — they insulate when cool and breathe when warm, making them comfortable across a wide temperature range. For spring, fall, and cool summer evenings, a thin merino top works well as a standalone piece. For warmer days, wool-silk camisoles and short-sleeve tops stay comfortable even in mild heat. Heavier knit and boiled wool tops are best for cooler months.

Is merino wool itchy against skin?

Quality merino wool is not itchy for most people. Merino fibers are typically 17-20 microns in diameter, compared to 30+ microns for the coarse wool that causes the itchy reputation. Engel, Reiff, and Disana all use fine merino wool processed without harsh chemical finishes. For very sensitive skin, wool-silk blends (70% merino, 30% silk) are even softer and are commonly chosen for next-to-skin tops. More on wool and itchiness →

Can I wear the same wool top multiple days in a row?

Yes. Wool's natural odor resistance means a wool top can typically be worn 3 to 5 days in a row for everyday use and still stay fresh — and often a week or more on travel. Hanging the garment overnight with air circulation refreshes it between wears. This is one of wool's biggest practical advantages over cotton or synthetic tops, and it's why wool is the preferred fabric for travel and minimalist wardrobes.

How often should I wash wool tops?

Far less often than cotton — typically every 5 to 10 wears. Wool is naturally odor-resistant, so airing the garment out between wears handles most situations. Wash when visibly soiled or when freshening is needed. Hand-wash in cool water with a wool-safe (enzyme-free) detergent and lay flat to dry. Avoid heat, standard detergents, and fabric softeners. With proper care, quality wool tops last many years. See our complete wool care guide →

Can I return wool tops if they don't fit?

Yes. Wool tops can be returned within our standard return window as long as items are unworn, unwashed, and in original condition with tags attached. For best fit, we recommend measuring yourself and checking each brand's size chart on the product page before ordering. See our returns page for full details →
