EcoAble Pocket Cloth Diaper — Discontinued Original Style
The original EcoAble adult pocket cloth diaper, still available while remaining stock lasts. Same bamboo-rayon lining, built-in wet-zone booster, and pocket opening as our current Pocket Cloth Diaper 2.0 — the main difference is a smaller hip size range. Pair with an absorbent insert for a reusable daytime setup.
Before you order — check the size range
This style's main difference from the 2.0 is fit range: it uses the older Youth / Regular / Extended naming and tops out at a 46-inch hip measurement, where the 2.0 extends to 55 inches. If your hip measurement falls within this style's range, you're getting nearly the same product at a reduced price. Our full comparison is in the Discontinued Styles Guide.

The original EcoAble adult pocket cloth diaper

This is the first-generation EcoAble adult pocket cloth diaper — a waterproof PUL shell with a soft bamboo-rayon inner lining, a pocket opening at the back, and a thin built-in booster in the wet zone. The same pocket-diaper design as our current 2.0 version; the shell is reinforced around the snap areas for durability through repeated wear.

On its own, the built-in wet-zone booster handles small leaks and dribbles. For regular daytime incontinence, pair it with a snap-in insert (sold separately) for a complete daytime setup.

What's different, and what's the same

The original Pocket Diaper and the 2.0 are very similar products. The main functional difference is the hip fit range. Everything else that defines the pocket diaper — the bamboo-rayon lining, pocket opening, built-in wet-zone booster, hip-tab closures with three rows of snaps — is the same on both.

Use cases

Urinary incontinence, bowel incontinence, and nighttime bedwetting — paired with the absorbent insert appropriate to the need.

Shell plus snap-in insert

Adjust the hip tabs and rise snaps for fit, slide a snap-in insert into the pocket opening, and fasten the hip tabs. The bamboo-rayon lining sits against your skin, the insert absorbs in the pocket, and the waterproof PUL outer contains everything. For heavier needs, a prefold booster can be added underneath the insert.

Sized by hip circumference — not waist

Measure around your hips just below the tip of the hip bone — not around the widest part of your buttocks, and not at your waist. Hip measurement is usually larger than pants waist but smaller than buttock circumference.

Size Hip circumference Notes
Youth 22–35 in (56–89 cm) Recommended age 13+ / X-small adult
Regular 26–42 in (66–107 cm) Small to medium adult
Extended 30–46 in (76–117 cm) Large adult

If you're between sizes, size up for comfort and a better leak seal at the legs. If your hip measurement is above 46 inches, this style won't fit well — the current Pocket Diaper 2.0 fits up to 55 inches.

Should you buy this or the 2.0?
The original style works well if...
Your hip measurement falls cleanly within one of the old size ranges (Youth 22–35, Regular 26–42, Extended 30–46) and you want the final-sale pricing. The pocket-diaper features that matter — bamboo-rayon lining, pocket opening, built-in wet-zone booster, hip-tab closures — are the same on both generations.
Choose the Pocket Diaper 2.0 instead if...
Your hip measurement is above 46 inches — this style won't fit, and the 2.0 extends the fit range up to 55 inches. That's the practical difference that matters most to most buyers.
Final sale — no returns on select colors
Select colors are marked as final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged. Please double-check your size against the chart before ordering.

What the shell is made of
Outer layer
Polyurethane Laminate (PUL), reinforced around the snap areas for durability.
Inner lining
Rayon from Bamboo — the soft layer that sits against your skin.
Built-in booster
Thin absorbent layer sewn into the wet zone. Polyester blend.

Washing instructions
Machine washable No bleach or fabric softeners Tumble low or air dry Max 90°F

Knock solids into the toilet and store in a dry pail between uses. Machine wash with detergent. Avoid bleach, boiling, and fabric softeners — softeners coat the PUL and bamboo fibers and reduce performance over time. Tumble dry on low or medium heat (maximum 90°F), or air dry. Use a liner if applying rash creams.

Testing and manufacturing

EcoAble cloth diapers are tested and certified in compliance with US CPSIA rules and regulations. Designed in the USA, made in China.

Frequently asked questions
Is this product still being sold?
Yes — at a reduced price while stock lasts. This is the original version of our adult pocket cloth diaper, before the 2.0 redesign. When current stock runs out, it won't be restocked.
Why should I consider this over the Pocket Diaper 2.0?
Price. The two versions are very similar — same bamboo-rayon lining, same pocket opening, same built-in wet-zone booster, same hip-tab closure system with three rows of snaps. The main difference is that this style's hip range tops out at 46 inches where the 2.0 extends to 55 inches. If your hip measurement falls within this range, the reduced price makes it a practical choice.
What's actually different between this and the 2.0?
The hip fit range, and the rise. This style fits hips 22–46 inches and has a maximum rise of about 35 inches. The 2.0 fits hips 26–55 inches with a maximum rise of about 38 inches. Everything else — lining, pocket, built-in booster, closure system — is the same on both.
Will accessories I already own work with this shell?
Yes. EcoAble snap-in inserts and prefold booster pads are compatible across both generations — the snap systems match. An insert sized for your 2.0 shell will work with this original style at the matching size.
Can I return this if it doesn't fit?
Select colors are marked as final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged. Check the sizing chart carefully before ordering — if your hip measurement falls between sizes, size up for a better leak seal at the legs.
Is shipping discreet?
Yes. All EcoAble orders ship in plain, unmarked packaging with no indication of the contents on the outside.

A reusable diaper that saves my dignity while saving the planet. Perform better than disposables.

Published by Brandon T on Apr 18th 2021

Ecoables have changed my life for the better. I spent a lot of time writing this review because I am hoping that anyone who has to deal with incontinence can see their life made better by this product too. I used to choose disposables because I had to in order to maintain dignity… I don’t have to any more. If you like the information I've provided, please feel free to use my referral link and save $10 on your first $50 order: http://ecoable.refr.cc/234EZRE I have had to use absorbent briefs for many years for incontinence. I have always had to make choices. Some products protect well but look horrible. I've worked hard to stay fit even in my middle age and I don't want to look like I'm wearing a diaper. Many disposable products protect well and look decent... However, I will probably use them for 50 years in total and I just can't stand what my contribution would be to the landfills using disposables that long. I've tried every new reusable pad/pant system I can find but none has ever been able to provide protection I could wear out in public and trust that they would not be noticed whether by being too thick to begin with or by leaking. I've outlined some of the key performance factors of these diapers as compared to disposables and other cloth diapers below. To help those of you who are incontinent understand my usage perspective, I have to wear diapers 24x7 due to overflow and urge incontinence. I have a nerve disorder that causes my bladder to contract violently and suddenly resulting in fairly large surges. I have to use pull-ups or full-blown diapers. I can't get away with pads or guards - the surges are too large. Cover - completely waterproof with double gussets. Other reusables will leak around the sides of legs as wetness - these do not. The cover is as reliable as any disposable pull-up or diaper I have used. Quiet - there is no rustle or crinkle. This is consistent with most modern reusables, pull-ups and quality diapers. Thickness - this is the primary driver of discreetness as far as I am concerned. It is also a driver of comfort as I don't think anyone wants bulkiness between legs or an extra bulge in front or back. The bamboo insert is amazing. It is not thick but incredibly absorbent. The diaper cover is about as thick as normal underwear. The result is a very thin diaper that is about as thick as a pair of Tena or Depend pull-ups when wet (disposables are thinner when dry but cloth doesn't swell - most disposables do) Weight – This is an indirect measure of comfort, discretion and absorbency. To me, lower weights are better if the performance is there. Ecoable come in at about 275 grams combined. Most reusables with similar absorbency are around 500grams. Disposables with similar absorbency are usually between 75 and 100 grams Absorbency – There are two points that I think are important for absorbency 1) when you start to feel uncomfortable from being wet and 2) when you risk leaking. This determines how long I can go before I want to and have to change. The bamboo in this product wicks incredibly well and feels dry to about 300ml. Coincidentally, this is about the same point as Depend pull-ups and Tena super plus underwear. It’s more than any other reusable I’ve tried of similar thickness. Leak point… These have consistently held over 600ml (sometimes as much as 750ml) of liquid with no leaks. They are really uncomfortable at that point but they keep me from being humiliated. Disposable pull-ups are good for no more than 400ml and really are likely to fail anytime above 350ml. Acquisition – Since I deal with surges, the acquisition time is key – liquid running around in your pants unabsorbed is a recipe for disaster. Hands down, the Ecoables are amazing. I’ve not yet experienced a surge they couldn’t handle when dry. This is far better than disposables. Comfort – Extremely soft and comfortable. Only slightly more noticeable that you are wearing a product than a disposable. As good as any other reusable. Cost – They are not cheap at the outset but are saving me hundreds. I’ve switched over completely. I do laundry every 3 days. To do this I had to buy 9 covers and 27 inserts. That is $750. Since I hang dry, I figure a load of laundry is about 50 cents and I expect these to last about 2 years before they need to be replaced. That means I will spend $865 over 2 years on diapers. I was using 1-2 diapers and 4-5 pull-ups a day when using disposables at a cost of about $5.50/day or almost $4,000 over two years. I will find amazing things to do with over $3,000 back… and I know I am doing better for the environment Convenience – The Ecoables are more convenient to change in public than a pull-up. You do need a good wet bag to store them in but you can change in a stall with your pants and shoes on. They are just as convenient as a taped diaper but far more discreet (no rustling or taping). Sizing – I have a 33” waist and the regulars fit great. There is a lot of room to expand so I would assume Ecoables sizing is correct. I like the option to snap them to a shorter crotch length (won’t peak out over pants) for daytime wear and then expand them for night.

    Great fit!

Published by Amy Lozano on Dec 12th 2020

The construction and materials are great. The fit is great, and it offers a lot of adjustabilities! We have only had it for a few weeks, and the stitching in the inner diaper liner is starting to come loose. Even with this flaw, she is consistently able to wake up in a dry bed. We love this diaper!
