Daytime Diaper System · Starter Kit

Everything you need to start cloth diapering today

One waterproof cover. Three absorbent inserts. A complete reusable baby cloth diaper system designed for everyday daytime use — no prior experience required.

Designed for daytime use
This kit is not intended for overnight wear. For overnight protection, see the EcoAble Overnight Cloth Diaper Set.

The right fit for your stage

This starter kit is built for parents and caregivers at every level of cloth diaper experience — from day one with a newborn to an active toddler on the move.

First-time cloth diaper parents
No experience needed. This kit is the simplest way to start — no folding, no complicated prep. If you've never used a cloth diaper before, this is where to begin.
Babies 10–35 lbs (approx. 2 months to age 3+)
The adjustable snap system means this diaper grows with your baby through most of their diapering years — no need to buy a different size as they grow.
Daytime diapering
Designed for regular daytime changes, typically every 2–3 hours. The reusable cover handles up to 3 insert swaps before it needs washing, keeping your laundry load manageable.
Parents ready to reduce disposables
Whether you're going fully cloth or simply reducing how many disposables you use each day, this kit gives you a practical, affordable place to start.

Everything in the kit, explained

Your kit arrives with two types of components — the outer waterproof cover and the absorbent inserts that sit inside it. Here's what each one does.

1 per kit
Waterproof Diaper Cover

This is the outer shell that goes against your baby's clothes. It's made from double-layer PUL — a soft, waterproof fabric — with leg gussets (a snug inner seam at each leg opening) that help keep messes inside.

It fastens with snaps at the waist and rise. As long as the cover is not soiled, you simply swap the insert and keep using the same cover — up to 3 times before washing.

3 per kit
Absorbent Inserts

These are the pads that sit inside the cover and absorb wetness. You choose your insert type at checkout — Charcoal Bamboo for a stay-dry feel against your baby's skin, or Bamboo Terry for a softer, breathable feel.

Use one insert for lighter needs, or layer two together for extra absorbency. The third insert stays in your bag as a backup.

Which insert is right for your baby?

Both inserts absorb the same amount of liquid. The difference is how they feel against your baby's skin.

Charcoal Bamboo — Stay-Dry Feel Bamboo Terry — Cooling, Breathable Feel
Keeps skin feeling dry even when the insert is holding wetness Soft, textured surface feels cool against skin
Wicks moisture away from the surface quickly Baby senses wetness sooner — supports potty training awareness
Helps hide stains — useful on busy days Breathable and gentle for sensitive skin
A good choice for longer stretches between changes A popular choice for warmer climates or summer use

Not sure which to choose? Most parents start with Charcoal Bamboo for everyday daytime use.

Using your starter kit, step by step

If you've never used a cloth diaper before, this walks you through everything from first wash to daily routine.

1
Wash inserts before first use
Before using any inserts for the first time, run them through one wash cycle. This preps the fibers to reach full absorbency. The cover can go straight into use — a prewash isn't required, though it doesn't hurt.
2
Place an insert inside the cover
Lay the cover flat, waterproof side down. Place one insert flat inside the cover, centered. No snapping in, no folding required. For extra absorbency, lay a second insert on top of the first.
3
Adjust the snaps to fit your baby
The rise snaps on the front panel control how tall the diaper sits — snap them down for smaller babies, leave them open as your baby grows. The waist snaps on the side wings fasten the cover in place like a regular diaper.
4
At change time: swap the insert
Remove the wet insert and set it aside. If the cover is not soiled, wipe it with a cloth, let it air briefly, and reuse it with a fresh insert — up to 3 times before washing. If the cover is soiled, place it in a wet bag to wash with the next load.
5
Wash and dry
Machine wash with your regular detergent — a cold or warm rinse first, then a full wash cycle. No fabric softener. Air dry the cover to protect the waterproof PUL layer; inserts can be tumble dried on low. Most parents wash diapers every 2–3 days.
New to cloth diapering?

Most parents find their preferred routine within a week or two. The first few changes may feel unfamiliar, but the snap system is one of the most intuitive starting points available. There is a short adjustment period — it passes quickly.

What makes this system work

01
Double-layer PUL waterproof cover
Two layers of waterproof material instead of one — extra leak protection where it matters most, without adding bulk.
02
Double leg gussets
Snug inner seams at both leg openings form a second barrier against leaks — especially helpful for active babies and blowout-prone newborns.
03
One size, adjustable snaps
Rise snaps and waist snaps let you dial in the fit from 10 lbs to 35 lbs — the same diaper from early months through toddler years.
04
Reuse the cover up to 3 times
When the cover isn't soiled, swap the insert and keep going. Fewer covers to wash, fewer items to buy.

What it's made from, and why it matters

Each material in this system is chosen for a specific job. Here's what's actually doing the work.

Double-Layer PUL

Diaper cover — outer shell

PUL (polyurethane laminate) is a soft, flexible fabric with a waterproof backing. The double layer adds extra protection against leaks. It's the industry-standard material for cloth diaper covers — durable, machine washable, and quick-drying.

Charcoal Bamboo

Insert option — wicks and absorbs

Bamboo-rayon blended with activated charcoal. The charcoal component draws moisture away from the surface quickly, so the layer against your baby's skin stays feeling dry even when the insert is holding wetness beneath it. Naturally soft and gentle.

Bamboo Terry

Insert option — soft and breathable

A textured bamboo-rayon fabric with a looped terry weave. It absorbs well and has a breathable, soft feel against skin. Unlike charcoal bamboo, it does not wick moisture away from the surface — your baby will sense dampness sooner, which some parents prefer when working toward potty training awareness.

One size that grows with your baby

Sizing is weight-based. Use the snaps to adjust the rise and waist as your baby grows — no need to buy a different diaper at each stage. Fits babies from 10 to 35 lbs — approximately 2 months through age 3+, depending on your baby's build.

Fit Setting Weight Range Rise Snap Position
Small 10–18 lbs Snapped down — both rows
Medium 18–26 lbs Snapped down — one row
Large 26–35 lbs Unsnapped
Fit may vary by body shape
If your baby is between sizes or approaching the upper end of a weight range, size up. The leg opening should feel secure without leaving marks on the skin.

Is this the right system for you?

Here is a straight look at what this kit does well, where it has limits, and what first-time cloth diaper parents should know before getting started.

Works well for
  • Parents starting cloth diapering for the first time — one of the simplest daytime systems available
  • Babies in the 10–35 lb range — the adjustable snaps cover most of the diapering years without buying a new size
  • Daytime use with regular changes every 2–3 hours
  • Parents who want to reduce disposable diaper use without a complicated routine
  • Households with limited washing capacity — cover reuse keeps laundry loads smaller
Worth knowing
  • This kit is designed for daytime use only — it is not intended for overnight wear without additional absorbency. For overnight, see the EcoAble Overnight Cloth Diaper Set.
  • With 1 cover and 3 inserts, this kit supports a full day's changes — most parents build a collection of 4–6 covers for full-time cloth diapering
  • The cover needs a brief moment to air between changes — a small step that adds up to significant cost savings over time
For first-time cloth diaper parents
  • The first few changes may feel unfamiliar. Most parents find their preferred routine within a week or two — the snap system is one of the most intuitive starting points available
  • One kit is a practical way to try the system before committing to a full stash — see how it works for your baby before buying more
  • Inserts need to be washed once before first use to reach full absorbency. It takes a few minutes — not a project

Washing your starter kit

Machine washable Cold or warm rinse first No fabric softeners Air dry cover Tumble dry inserts on low

Start with a cold or warm rinse, then run a full wash cycle with your regular detergent. Avoid fabric softeners — they build up on bamboo fibers over time and reduce absorbency. Air drying the cover extends the life of the PUL waterproof layer significantly; the inserts can go in the dryer on low. Most parents wash diapers every 2–3 days. Wash inserts before first use.

What parents ask most

Including the questions you might not know how to search for — there are no wrong questions here.

I've never used a cloth diaper before. Is this kit actually beginner-friendly?
Yes — this is intentionally one of the simplest cloth diaper systems available. There is no folding and no complicated prep. You place an insert inside the cover, adjust the snaps to fit your baby, and fasten it like a regular diaper. The snap system takes one or two tries to get used to, and after that it becomes routine. Most first-time cloth diaper parents find their preferred system within a week or two.
What exactly is included in the kit?
One waterproof diaper cover — double-layer PUL, adjustable snaps, leg gussets, fits 10 to 35 lbs. Plus three absorbent inserts in your chosen material: Charcoal Bamboo (stay-dry feel) or Bamboo Terry (soft, breathable feel). You choose your insert type when you add to cart.
How many kits do I need for full-time cloth diapering?
One kit gives you a full day's worth of daytime changes using the cover-reuse method — swap the insert at each change, wash the cover after every 3 uses or when soiled. For a complete cloth diaper rotation washed every 2–3 days, most parents aim for 4–6 covers and 12–18 inserts. One kit is a practical way to try the system before committing to a full stash.
Can I use this diaper overnight?
This kit is designed for daytime use with regular changes every 2–3 hours. It is not designed to handle overnight wear, which requires substantially higher absorbency for an extended stretch without a change. For overnight protection, we recommend the EcoAble Overnight Cloth Diaper Set, which pairs a high-absorbency fitted diaper with a waterproof cover for all-night protection.
What is the difference between Charcoal Bamboo and Bamboo Terry inserts?
Both inserts absorb the same amount of liquid. The difference is the feel against your baby's skin. Charcoal Bamboo wicks moisture away from the surface so the layer touching your baby stays feeling dry even when the insert is holding wetness. Bamboo Terry has a softer, cooler feel and your baby will sense dampness sooner — some parents prefer this when working toward potty training awareness. Most parents choose Charcoal Bamboo for everyday daytime use.
How does the cover reuse work — is it hygienic?
Yes. The PUL cover is waterproof, so liquid does not soak into the cover itself. At each change, you remove the wet insert, wipe the cover with a cloth if needed, and let it air briefly before refastening with a fresh insert. As long as the cover is not soiled, this is completely hygienic and is standard practice in cloth diapering. The cover goes into the wash after every 3 uses, or immediately if soiled.
Will this fit my baby? My baby is on the slimmer or chunkier side.
The one-size adjustable snap system fits babies from 10 to 35 lbs, and the waist and rise snaps give a wide range of adjustability for different body shapes. For slimmer babies, the medium snap setting may fit better than the weight chart suggests. For chunkier babies, focus on a snug leg fit — the gussets should lie flat against the leg with no visible gap. If your baby is at the upper end of a weight range or between sizes, size up. The leg opening should feel secure but should not leave marks on the skin.
