Shell only · bring your own absorbency
EcoAble Diaper Cover 2.0 — Reusable Waterproof Adult Diaper Cover
A reusable waterproof diaper cover for adults, built with a double-layer PUL shell. Pair it with the absorbent layer of your choice — snap-in inserts, prefold booster pads, fitted diapers, or even a disposable diaper when you need extra leak protection.
Who this is for
A standalone waterproof cover for customizable protection
The Diaper Cover 2.0 is the waterproof shell — not a complete diaper on its own. It has no built-in absorbency. You pair it with an absorbent layer that fits your needs, which makes it one of the most flexible options in our adult cloth diaper line.
This is the right pick if you already have absorbent products you want to use (prefolds, fitted diapers, snap-in inserts, or even disposable diapers you want to reinforce), or if you want to build a system where the absorbency level can change across different times of day or stages of your needs.
How this differs from our Pocket Diaper 2.0
The Pocket Diaper has a soft fabric inner lining with a pocket opening — you tuck an insert inside the pocket, and the lining sits against your skin. It also has a thin built-in booster in the wet zone, so it holds a little more on its own. The Diaper Cover has no fabric lining and no built-in absorbency, but it uses a double layer of PUL instead of the single-layer PUL in the Pocket Diaper — a stronger, more durable waterproof barrier. Instead of a pocket, you lay an insert or booster directly inside the cover, or wrap it around a fitted diaper or a disposable. The Pocket Diaper is simpler, more cushioned, and slightly more absorbent on its own; the Diaper Cover has a tougher waterproof shell and pairs with more kinds of absorbency.
Key features
What sets this cover apart
Double-layer PUL construction
Two layers of Polyurethane Laminate — stronger and more durable than the single-layer PUL used in our Pocket Diaper 2.0 and in most other manufacturers' covers. A more reliable leak barrier, a more confident feel at the legs, and a shell that holds up longer through repeated washing.
Wipe, air out, and reuse
Because the shell has no absorbent fabric on the inside, you can wipe it down, air it out, and reuse it up to 3–4 times between washes — unless soiled. Fewer washes and a longer product life.
Adjustable fit
Hip tabs and rise snaps let you adjust both width and height so the cover sits where it needs to. A well-fitted cover is the difference between reliable leak containment and frustrating leaks at the legs.
Works with any absorbent layer
Compatible with EcoAble snap-in inserts, prefold booster pads, and fitted diapers. Also wraps around a disposable diaper as a reinforcing waterproof layer if you need extra leak insurance.
Building your system
How to pair the cover with absorbency
The right absorbent layer depends on your level of incontinence and when you're wearing the cover. These are the most common pairings, from lightest to heaviest protection.
Light to moderate
+ Snap-in insert
The most common daytime pairing. The insert snaps into the cover to stay in place. Good for regular daytime leaks during active wear.
Moderate to heavy
+ Insert + prefold booster
Adds a prefold booster pad on top of the insert for higher capacity. Best for longer stretches between changes or heavier daytime needs.
Overnight
+ Fitted diaper + snap-in insert
A full-coverage absorbent fitted diaper worn inside the cover, with a snap-in insert added on top for extra capacity. The highest-capacity setup, designed for nighttime protection.
Extra leak insurance
+ Wrapped around a disposable
Wraps around a disposable diaper with the hip tabs, adding a waterproof backup layer on the outside. Useful overnight, during travel, or for heavy voids where a disposable alone has leaked before.
All absorbent layers are sold separately. If you'd prefer a complete set out of the box, we also offer the Diaper Cover 2.0 paired with an insert, a maximum-protection kit, and a day & night overnight set.
Materials
What the cover is made of
100% Polyurethane Laminate (PUL) — double layer
PUL is a soft, flexible, waterproof fabric used throughout the cloth diaper industry. Most covers — including our own Pocket Diaper 2.0 shell — use a single layer. This cover uses two, which is less common in the adult incontinence category. The second layer provides a stronger moisture barrier, better puncture resistance, and a longer usable life before the waterproofing wears down. The outer surface is quiet — it doesn't crinkle like plastic-backed disposables — and the fabric stays flexible wash after wash.
Sizing
Sized by hip circumference — not waist
Measure around the widest part of your hips, below the hip bones. Do not use your waist measurement — the fit depends on hip circumference.
| Size |
Hip circumference |
Rise |
| Small |
26–42 in (66–107 cm) |
23–27 in (59–69 cm) |
| Medium |
30–45 in (77–114 cm) |
28–33 in (71–84 cm) |
| Large |
36–55 in (92–140 cm) |
32–38 in (81–95 cm) |
If you're between sizes, size up for comfort and a better leak seal at the legs. If you're wrapping the cover around a disposable, consider sizing up as well so it fits comfortably over the extra bulk.
Honest assessment
Is this right for you?
This product works well if...
You already own absorbent products you want to pair with a waterproof cover, you want the flexibility to change your absorbency level depending on the situation, or you want a backup waterproof layer to wrap around disposable diapers. It's also a good pick if you want a cover that can be wiped and reused several times between washes.
You may want something different if...
You want a ready-to-wear system out of the box with nothing else to buy — in that case, our Pocket Diaper 2.0 with snap-in insert, or the Diaper Cover 2.0 with insert set, is a simpler starting point. Also consider the Pocket Diaper if you want the cushioned feel of a fabric lining against your skin and a little extra built-in absorbency in the wet zone.
On discretion
The cover itself is low-profile, but the bulk of what you'll feel and see depends on the absorbent layer you pair it with. A slim insert stays discreet under most clothing; a fitted diaper or a disposable underneath adds noticeable bulk, which is better suited for nighttime or at-home wear. Looser trousers, longer tops, and A-line styles work best for a discreet appearance with any setup.
Care
Washing instructions
Wipe and reuse up to 3–4 times Machine washable Cold or warm rinse first No fabric softeners Air dry preferred
Between uses, wipe the inside with a damp cloth and let it air out — unless the cover is soiled, in which case it goes straight to the wash. When it's time to launder, run a cold or warm rinse cycle first, then a full wash with detergent. Avoid fabric softeners — they coat PUL and reduce its waterproof performance over time. Air drying is best for PUL shells; occasional tumble dry on low is fine, but air drying extends the life of the waterproof layer.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Does this cover include any absorbency?
No. The Diaper Cover 2.0 is a waterproof shell only, with no built-in absorbent layer. You pair it with a snap-in insert, prefold booster, fitted diaper, or another absorbent product of your choice — including a disposable diaper, if you want to use the cover as a backup waterproof layer. If you want a complete ready-to-wear system, look at our Diaper Cover 2.0 with insert set instead.
Can I use this cover with a disposable diaper?
Yes — this is one of the most common uses. You wrap the Diaper Cover 2.0 around the disposable with the hip tabs, the same way you'd wrap it around a fitted diaper. The disposable does the absorbing; the cover adds a waterproof backup layer on the outside. It's especially useful overnight, during long car or plane travel, or for heavier voids where a disposable alone has leaked in the past. The double-layer PUL contains leaks the disposable can't. You may want to size up the cover so it fits comfortably over the extra bulk of a disposable underneath.
Can I really wipe and reuse it instead of washing?
Yes, as long as the cover isn't soiled. Because there's no absorbent fabric on the inside, the PUL surface can be wiped down with a damp cloth, aired out, and reused up to 3–4 times before needing a full wash. If the cover comes into contact with stool or the absorbent layer fully saturates, wash it right away.
Will the double PUL layer make it hot or stiff?
The PUL we use stays soft and flexible. Two layers does add a small amount of warmth compared to a single-layer cover, but it's not significantly different in feel. The trade-off is a noticeably stronger leak barrier and a longer-lasting shell.
How many covers do I need?
Because you can wipe and reuse between washes, most people manage well with 2–3 covers in rotation — fewer than you'd need with pocket diapers, which require a full wash after each use. Start with 2 and expand if you want more rotation.
How do I prevent leaks at the legs?
Fit is the most important factor. The leg openings should sit snugly without digging in, and the absorbent layer inside should be tucked in completely — any fabric poking out past the leg elastics will wick moisture out. Also make sure your absorbent layer matches your needs; a leak at the legs often means the absorbency is being overwhelmed, not that the cover is failing.
Is shipping discreet?
Yes. All EcoAble orders ship in plain, unmarked packaging with no indication of the contents on the outside.
