Description

Overnight Diaper System · Complete Set

Leak-free nights, finally sorted

A high-absorbency fitted diaper paired with a waterproof cover — a complete reusable overnight cloth diaper system designed for 10–12 hours of protection without a change.

Designed for overnight use
This system handles extended wear — up to 10–12 hours — without a change. For daytime diapering, see the EcoAble Cloth Diaper Starter Kit.

Built for babies who need more at night

Not every baby can make it through the night on a standard daytime diaper. This system is designed for the ones who can't — and for parents who are tired of waking up to wet bedding.

Heavy overnight wetters
If your baby is soaking through disposables or lighter cloth options overnight, this system is built for that. The hemp-cotton fitted diaper holds significantly more than a standard daytime insert.
Babies 10–35 lbs (approx. 2 months to age 3+)
The same adjustable snap system as the daytime cover — fits your baby from early months through toddler years without buying a different size.
Parents switching from disposable nighttime diapers
If you've been using disposables at night but want to move to cloth, this is the system that can match that level of protection. The two-layer design — absorbent fitted diaper inside a waterproof cover — is what makes it work.
Families already using EcoAble daytime covers
The waterproof cover included in this set is the same cover used in the daytime starter kit. If you already have one, you can use it with the overnight fitted diaper — you may only need to add the fitted diaper separately.

Everything in the set, explained

This set arrives with three components — the fitted diaper and two inserts that absorb, and one outer cover that protects. Here's what each one does and why it's needed.

The absorber
Fitted Diaper

Absorbency layer — worn next to skin

A fitted diaper is a cloth diaper shaped like a regular diaper — with elastics around the legs and back waist for a close, secure fit — but it has no waterproof layer. It absorbs all the moisture throughout the night.

This is the core of the system. It comes in two versions: Stay-Dry or All-Natural. Both absorb the same amount.

The boosters
Long Insert + Short Insert

Boost absorbency — layer inside the fitted diaper

Two hemp-cotton inserts included — one long, one short — that lay inside the fitted diaper to increase its overnight capacity. Use both for heavy wetters or longer sleep stretches.

The short insert is lined with bamboo rayon on the Stay-Dry version, adding an extra layer of wicking next to the skin.

The protector
Waterproof PUL Cover

Protection layer — worn over the fitted diaper

The outer cover goes over the fitted diaper and does one job: contain everything inside. It is made from double-layer PUL — the same waterproof material used in the daytime cover — with leg gussets to seal the edges.

The fitted diaper cannot be used overnight without this cover.

How the two layers work together

Step 1 — Absorb: The fitted diaper and inserts hold moisture through the night. Step 2 — Protect: The waterproof cover prevents leaks onto pajamas and bedding. Both layers are essential — the fitted diaper cannot be worn overnight without the cover.

Same absorbency. Choose your feel.

Both fitted diaper options provide identical overnight absorbency and performance. The only difference is how they feel against your baby's skin. This is a comfort preference — not a performance difference.

Both options absorb the same amount

If your baby is a heavy overnight wetter, either version will provide the same level of protection. Choose based on how you want your baby to feel overnight.

Stay-Dry — Drier Feel Against Skin All-Natural — Natural Fibers Against Skin
Wicks moisture away from the skin surface quickly 100% natural fibers in contact with skin throughout
Baby feels drier even as the diaper holds wetness Baby will feel wetness sooner as it absorbs — this is normal
Smooth inner layer — no wet sensation Most popular choice among parents who prefer no synthetic layers
A good choice if your baby stirs easily or is sensitive to feeling wet A good choice for babies with sensitive skin or parents avoiding synthetics

Setting up your overnight system, step by step

If you've never used a fitted diaper before, this walks you through the full bedtime setup.

1
Wash everything before first use
Wash the fitted diaper and both inserts at least once before using them for the first time. Hemp-cotton takes several washes to reach full absorbency — performance will continue to improve with regular laundering. The cover is ready to use after one wash. Hemp absorbency increases over the first 5–8 washes; don't judge performance from the very first night.
2
Place the inserts inside the fitted diaper
Lay the fitted diaper flat. Place the long insert first, then the short insert on top, both centered. The inserts sit inside the diaper — they do not snap in. For the Stay-Dry version, position the bamboo rayon side of the short insert facing up, toward your baby's skin.
3
Put the fitted diaper on your baby
Fasten the fitted diaper on your baby like a regular diaper. The elastics around the legs and back waist create a close fit that helps keep everything in place through the night. Check that the leg elastics are lying flat and the back elastic is tucked in, not folded outward. You should be able to fit one finger underneath the leg elastics.
4
Put the waterproof cover over the fitted diaper
Pull the PUL cover over the fitted diaper and fasten the snaps. The cover goes on top of the fitted diaper — not underneath. Adjust the rise snaps for your baby's size. Tuck any fabric from the fitted diaper inside the cover — any absorbent material exposed outside the cover can wick moisture onto clothing.
5
In the morning: what to expect
The fitted diaper will feel wet and heavy — this is completely normal with hemp. Hemp absorbs fully, which means the diaper holds moisture rather than trying to wick it away (unless using the Stay-Dry version). If there are no leaks, the system is working correctly. A wet fitted diaper is not a sign of failure.
6
Wash and dry
Machine wash the fitted diaper, inserts, and cover together. Cold or warm rinse first, then a full wash with detergent. No fabric softeners. Air dry the cover to protect the PUL layer; the fitted diaper and inserts can be tumble dried on low, or air dried. Avoid very hot drying temperatures — excessive heat can make the hemp-cotton feel rough over time.
First-time cloth diaper parent?

Fitted diapers feel different from pocket diapers or covers with inserts — they are shaped and fitted like a real diaper, which makes them one of the easiest overnight setups to use correctly once you've done it once. The two-step process (fitted diaper, then cover) takes about 30 seconds after the first night.

What makes this overnight system work

01
High-capacity hemp-cotton core
Hemp holds significantly more moisture than microfiber or bamboo alone — it's the material of choice for overnight cloth diapering because of its density and absorbency over long stretches.
02
Two-layer system: absorb + protect
The fitted diaper absorbs; the cover contains. This separation of jobs is what allows overnight performance — the fitted diaper can hold a full night's worth without the cover becoming saturated.
03
Elastics for a close fit
The fitted diaper has elastics around the legs and back waist — not gussets. This gives a shaped, body-hugging fit that stays in place through a full night of sleep, including active sleepers.
04
Double leg gussets on the cover
The waterproof cover adds a second seal at the legs — a double inner seam that catches anything the fitted diaper's elastics may not contain. Two layers of leak protection at the leg openings.

What it's made from, and why it matters

Every material in this system is chosen for overnight performance. Here's what's actually doing the work.

Stay-Dry Fitted Diaper

Fitted diaper · Long insert · Short insert

Fitted diaper: 55% hemp, 45% cotton absorbent core, lined with 100% rayon from bamboo on the skin-facing side. The bamboo rayon wicks moisture away from the surface quickly, so your baby's skin stays feeling dry even as the diaper holds wetness beneath.

Long insert: 55% hemp, 45% cotton. Handles the bulk of overnight absorption inside the fitted diaper.

Short insert: Bamboo terry layers with 100% rayon from bamboo on the skin-facing side. The bamboo rayon wicks moisture away from the surface; the bamboo terry beneath absorbs and holds it.

All-Natural Fitted Diaper

Fitted diaper · Long insert · Short insert

Fitted diaper: 55% hemp, 45% cotton. Identical absorbent construction to the Stay-Dry version — same capacity, same overnight performance.

Long insert: 55% hemp, 45% cotton. Same as the Stay-Dry version.

Short insert: 55% hemp, 45% cotton throughout — no synthetic or wicking layer. Natural fibers sit against your baby's skin from the first layer to the last. Your baby will feel wetness sooner as the diaper absorbs. This is a normal characteristic of natural-fiber diapers, not a sign of failure.

Double-Layer PUL

Waterproof cover — outer shell, both versions

PUL (polyurethane laminate) is a soft, flexible waterproof fabric. The cover uses a double layer for extra leak protection at the core where it matters most. This is the same cover used in the EcoAble daytime starter kit — durable, machine washable, and quick-drying. If you already have a daytime cover, it is compatible with this overnight fitted diaper.

One size that grows with your baby

Both the fitted diaper and the waterproof cover use the same adjustable snap system — no need to buy different sizes as your baby grows. Fits babies from 10 to 35 lbs — approximately 2 months through age 3+, depending on your baby's build. Adjust the rise snaps on both the fitted diaper and the cover to match your baby's current weight range.

Fit Setting Weight Range Rise Snap Position
Small 10–18 lbs Snapped down — both rows
Medium 18–26 lbs Snapped down — one row
Large 26–35 lbs Unsnapped
Fit may vary by body shape
If your baby is between sizes or approaching the upper end of a weight range, size up. For overnight use, a snug leg fit on both the fitted diaper and the cover is especially important — check that both leg elastics and cover gussets are lying flat with no gaps.

Is this the right system for your baby?

Here is a straight look at what this set does well, what to expect from hemp, and what first-time overnight cloth diaper parents should know.

Works well for
  • Heavy overnight wetters who soak through lighter options — hemp holds significantly more than standard inserts
  • Babies 10–35 lbs using the adjustable snap system — covers most of the diapering years without buying a new size
  • Parents transitioning from disposable nighttime diapers to cloth — this system matches that level of protection
  • Overnight stretches of 10–12 hours without a change, when fitted correctly with both inserts
  • Families already using the EcoAble daytime cover — the cover in this set is the same and is interchangeable
Worth knowing
  • Hemp takes 5–8 washes to reach full absorbency — don't judge overnight performance from the very first night
  • The fitted diaper will feel wet and heavy in the morning. This is normal for hemp. If there are no leaks, the system is working correctly
  • This system is designed for overnight use — it is more than needed for regular daytime changes. For daytime, see the EcoAble Cloth Diaper Starter Kit
  • Avoid very hot dryer temperatures — excessive heat over time can make the hemp-cotton feel rougher than it should
For first-time cloth diaper parents
  • A fitted diaper is different from a pocket diaper or a cover with a lay-in insert — it's shaped like a real diaper, which makes it easier to put on correctly
  • The two-step bedtime routine (fitted diaper, then cover) takes about 30 seconds once you've done it a couple of times
  • Hemp smells slightly earthy when new and when wet — this is normal and fades with washing
  • If you already have the EcoAble daytime cover, you can use it with just the fitted diaper from this set — you may not need to buy the full bundle

Washing your overnight set

Machine washable Cold or warm rinse first No fabric softeners Air dry cover Tumble dry fitted on low Wash before first use

Wash everything before first use — hemp absorbency builds over the first several washes, so pre-washing is important. Cold or warm rinse first, then a full wash cycle with your regular detergent. No fabric softeners — they coat the hemp and cotton fibers and reduce absorbency over time. Air dry the waterproof cover to protect the PUL layer. The fitted diaper and inserts can be tumble dried on low, but avoid high heat — excessive temperatures over time can make the hemp-cotton feel rough. The entire set can be washed together in one load.

What parents ask most

Including the questions that aren't easy to search for.

What is a fitted diaper — how is it different from a pocket diaper?
A fitted diaper is shaped exactly like a regular diaper — with elastics around the legs and back waist — but it has no waterproof outer layer. It absorbs moisture but cannot contain leaks on its own, which is why it's always paired with a waterproof cover. A pocket diaper, by contrast, is a waterproof shell with a pocket where you stuff an insert. A fitted diaper holds more moisture than a pocket diaper insert, which is why fitted diapers are the preferred choice for overnight use.
Can I use the fitted diaper alone without the cover?
No. The fitted diaper absorbs moisture but is not waterproof — without the cover, moisture will pass through to your baby's pajamas and bedding. The waterproof cover is an essential part of the system, not an optional add-on. Both pieces are always needed for overnight use.
The fitted diaper feels soaking wet in the morning. Is something wrong?
No — this is exactly how hemp-cotton fitted diapers are supposed to work. Hemp absorbs moisture fully and holds it within the fibers rather than wicking it away. A heavy, wet fitted diaper in the morning means it did its job. If there are no leaks onto pajamas or bedding, the system is working correctly. The only concern is if moisture is getting past the cover — that would indicate a fit issue, not an absorbency failure.
Why does the Stay-Dry version feel drier if both options absorb the same amount?
The difference is in the skin-facing layer, not the absorbent core. Both versions use the same hemp-cotton absorbent layers. The Stay-Dry version adds a bamboo rayon layer on top — rayon wicks moisture away from the surface quickly, so the layer actually touching your baby's skin stays feeling dry even while the hemp-cotton beneath it is holding wetness. The All-Natural version skips this wicking layer — natural fibers sit against the skin all the way through, so your baby will feel wetness sooner as the diaper absorbs.
How long does it take for the hemp to reach full absorbency?
Hemp-cotton builds absorbency over the first 5–8 washes as the fibers open up. Washing once before first use is the minimum — but performance will continue to improve noticeably over the first week of use and laundering. If the first night doesn't feel perfect, wash the set again and try a second night before drawing conclusions. Most parents find the system performing well by the end of the first week.
I already have the EcoAble daytime cover. Do I need to buy the full set?
The waterproof cover included in this set is the same cover as the EcoAble daytime starter kit. If you already have one in good condition, it is compatible with the overnight fitted diaper. In that case, you may only need the fitted diaper and inserts rather than the full bundle — contact us and we can advise on the best option for your situation.
My baby is still leaking through. What should I check?
The most common causes of leaks with a fitted diaper system are fit and compression. First, check that the cover's leg gussets are lying flat inside the leg crease — any gap here is a leak path. Second, make sure no part of the fitted diaper is sticking out past the cover edges — exposed absorbent material wicks moisture outward. Third, check whether the hemp has been washed enough times to reach full absorbency — if this is within the first week of use, more washes will help. If leaks persist, sizing up may give a better seal at the legs.
