Reiff Organic Wool Clothing — GOTS & IVN BEST Certified, Third-Generation Family Company

Reiff Strickwaren is a third-generation, family-run company based at the foot of Germany's Swabian Alps — not far from where the Reiff family still lives today. For decades, Reiff has been at the forefront of organic and natural fiber clothing for babies, children, and adults, combining traditional German knitting craftsmanship with the strictest available sustainability standards.

Reiff sources its merino wool exclusively from certified-organic sheep raised mulesing-free on Patagonian farms. Once shorn, the raw wool is shipped to Europe, where it is washed, spun, and dyed using low-impact processes before being knitted and assembled in Reiff's German facilities. This closed, traceable supply chain allows Reiff to certify every product under both GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and IVN BEST — the most stringent organic textile standard available, with requirements that go beyond GOTS on chemical restrictions and social compliance.

Reiff's collection centers on 100% organic merino wool fleece — plush and insulating yet lightweight, making it the ideal fabric for baby sleep sacks, wearable blankets, and winter outerwear. For adults, Reiff offers a refined women's line in fine merino crepe: dresses, skirts, and shirts that move beautifully and travel without wrinkling. At EcoAble, we carry Reiff's most popular baby and kids pieces alongside their adult accessories and women's apparel.

Which Reiff sleep sack is right for your baby?

Reiff's sleep sacks and wearable blankets are their most popular products — and the most asked-about. The right choice depends on your baby's room temperature. Reiff makes three wool sleep sacks, each suited to a different temperature range.

Merino & Silk Wearable Blanket — 1.0 TOG

Best for room temperatures of 18–24°C (65–75°F). The lightest Reiff sleep sack, made from merino wool and silk. Ideal for spring, summer, and temperature-controlled bedrooms year-round. A good choice for babies who run warm or sleep in rooms that stay consistently above 20°C.

100% Merino Wool Fleece Wearable Blanket — 2.5 TOG

Best for room temperatures of 16–20°C (61–68°F). The most popular Reiff sleep sack, and the best all-around choice for fall and winter. Pure wool fleece regulates temperature naturally, making it forgiving across a wider range of conditions than a synthetic equivalent at the same TOG rating.

Merino + Cotton Sherpa Wearable Blanket — 3.5 TOG

Best for cold rooms below 18°C (65°F). The warmest Reiff sleep sack, with a merino wool outer and an organic cotton sherpa lining. Designed for cold bedrooms, older drafty homes, and babies who sleep cooler. If you are unsure, the 2.5 TOG is the safer starting point — wool's natural breathability prevents overheating better than synthetic fabrics at the same rating.

Baby outerwear & essentials (newborn – 18 months)

Reiff's baby coverall romper with hood and integrated mittens is a one-piece outerwear solution for cold weather — warm, practical, and made entirely from 100% organic merino wool fleece. The baby cardigan in 100% merino wool is a classic first-year layering piece, with tagua nut buttons for a natural finish. Wool fleece booties keep feet warm from birth through the first walking months.

Kids' cold-weather kit (3 months – 6 years)

Reiff's kids' winter leggings in 100% organic merino wool work equally well as a base layer under outerwear or as standalone pants indoors. The balaclava hat covers ears, neck, and chin in one piece — ideal for very cold days. The kids' mittens in merino fleece are warm and durable enough for daily outdoor play. Together, leggings, balaclava, and mittens form a complete cold-weather kit for toddlers and young children.

Women's merino crepe (adults)

Reiff's women's line is made from 100% organic merino in a fine crepe weave — lighter and more structured than fleece, with a beautiful natural drape. The tunic dress, long flared skirt, and long-sleeve shirt are designed as standalone pieces, not just base layers. They travel without wrinkling and move naturally throughout the day. Available in XS, S, L, and XL — note that Reiff women's sizing does not include a Medium. If you typically wear a Medium, compare your measurements to the size chart and choose S or L accordingly.

Unisex adult accessories

Reiff's adult accessories are made from 100% organic merino wool and designed for everyday use. The skull cap beanie and neck gaiter scarf (both in the Maja line) are warm, packable, and chemical-free. The women's arm warmers in merino fleece keep hands and wrists warm without restricting finger movement — useful for cold offices, outdoor work, and travel.

How Reiff sizing works

Reiff uses European height-based sizing in centimeters for all baby and kids items. Adult sizing follows EU standards with some important notes specific to the Reiff women's line.

Baby & kids — size to height

Measure your child's height from heel to head and choose the EU size closest to that number. Reiff's baby and kids pieces run from newborn (size 50/56) through size 116 (approximately age 5–6). For sleep sacks, size to current height — babies grow into the next size quickly and a slightly larger sleep sack is safe to use.

Women's — no Medium in this line

Reiff women's clothing comes in XS, S, L, and XL only — there is no Medium size. If you typically wear a Medium, compare your bust, waist, and hip measurements to the size chart on the product page and choose the closer fit. For the merino crepe dress and skirt, S runs closer to a US 6–8 and L runs closer to a US 10–12.

Full size charts with body measurements are available on each individual product page.

Common questions about Reiff wool

Which Reiff sleep sack should I choose?

It depends on your baby's room temperature. The Merino & Silk Wearable Blanket (1.0 TOG) is best for warm rooms of 18–24°C (65–75°F). The 100% Merino Wool Fleece Wearable Blanket (2.5 TOG) is the most popular choice and works well for rooms of 16–20°C (61–68°F) — it is the best all-around option for fall and winter. The Merino + Cotton Sherpa Wearable Blanket (3.5 TOG) is best for cold rooms below 18°C (65°F). If you are unsure between the 2.5 and 3.5 TOG, choose the 2.5 — wool's natural temperature regulation means it works across a wider range of conditions than a synthetic sleep sack at the same rating.

What makes Reiff wool different from other merino wool brands?

Reiff holds both GOTS and IVN BEST certification — IVN BEST being the most stringent organic textile standard in the world. Their wool is sourced mulesing-free from certified-organic Patagonian farms and the entire supply chain — washing, spinning, dyeing, and garment production — takes place in Germany. As a third-generation family company with complete in-house production, Reiff offers a level of traceability and consistency that most brands cannot match.

Is Reiff wool machine washable?

Yes. Reiff wool garments can be machine washed on a gentle wool cycle in cool water with a wool-safe, enzyme-free detergent. Lay flat on a towel to dry — never tumble dry or wring. Wool naturally resists odor, so most pieces only need washing every 3–5 wears. Airing out between uses is usually sufficient for freshening. See our complete wool care guide →

Does Reiff make clothing for adults?

Yes. Reiff offers a women's collection in fine merino crepe including a tunic dress, long flared skirt, and long-sleeve shirt — designed as standalone pieces, not just base layers. They also make unisex adult accessories in 100% merino wool: a skull cap beanie and neck gaiter scarf in the Maja line, and women's arm warmers in merino fleece. Men's options include a long-sleeve wool-silk shirt. Adult women's sizes are XS, S, L, and XL — there is no Medium in the Reiff women's line.

Where is Reiff clothing made?

Reiff garments are manufactured at the company's facilities in the Swabian Alps region of Germany, close to where the Reiff family has been based for three generations. Wool is sourced from mulesing-free organic farms in Patagonia, then washed, spun, dyed, and made into finished garments entirely in Germany.

How does Reiff sizing work?

Reiff uses European height-based sizing in centimeters for all baby and kids items — measure your child from heel to head and choose the closest EU size. Sizes run from newborn (50/56 cm) through approximately size 116 (age 5–6). For sleep sacks, size to current height. For adult women's clothing, Reiff offers XS, S, L, and XL — there is no Medium. Compare your measurements to the size chart on the product page to choose between S and L if you are typically a Medium. Full size charts are on each product page. See our full sizing guide →

How does Reiff compare to Engel and Disana?

All three are German organic wool brands with GOTS certification, but each specializes differently. Reiff is known for 100% wool fleece — particularly baby sleep sacks and wearable blankets — and is the only brand with a dedicated women's clothing line in fine merino crepe. They also hold IVN BEST certification in addition to GOTS. Engel has the widest range across all ages and is known for their wool-silk blend base layers; they also hold IVN BEST. Disana is the oldest brand (founded 1969), focuses on knitted and boiled wool for babies and young children, and is the only brand that also makes organic cotton cloth diapers and wool diaper covers.
